ABOUT GARDINE
We are a small hobby kennel located in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Owned by Alicia Wilson, she comes from extensive dog background. The original kennel name Gardine comes from her Grandfather's kennel back in the late 1960's early 70's when he bred miniature poodles as well as white german shepherd dogs. The name Gardine is an abbreviation of Alicia's mother Nadine and her Uncle Gary's name, therefore getting the Gar-Dine, as her grandfather had it. Her mother also bred Standard Poodles under the same name for a brief stint in the early 90's, but due to some concerns with the breed she retired her girl and the kennel name over to Alicia.
In 2000, Alicia bought her first crested, however she turned out to be just a pet. The new Gardine has been active since 2002, when Alicia recieved her foundation chinese crested, Silver Bluff Spotted Jett. Although the numbers are small, the belief here is quality over quantity. By researching thoroughly before each breeding, Gardine has been able to produce some very nice puppies, some doing very well in the show ring, others becoming the wonderful companions that they deserve to be, while still maintaining the high standard of a show dog.
In 2010, to honor the 10th anniversary of her grandfather's passing away, the kennel name Gardine is being retired to fall back on it's glorious days and wins in the crested breed. All dogs from this point on will be named under the Mauvais prefix, which was the name that this breeding program was going to have in 2000 when pharaoh hounds were the breed of choice.
Hopefully this new name, and fresh go will catapult Mauvais further into the right direction for the future of the breed!
As of late 2012 we have decided to go back to the name Gardine, it is a name that people recognize and love, and it has such a great history for us that we feel it is the right step. Along with some misunderstandings at the meaning of Mauvais, this is the right move and we look forwards to returning to the ring as Gardine!

In 2020 we purchased our home, and the new home of the Cresteds of Gardine! It sits on 6 beautiful acres in the heart of PEI.

As far as health testing goes, currently we CERF test for hereditary eye problems, yearly. OFA cardio on hearts, to check for abnormalities, and OFA on Patellas for luxation and PLL. All of our dogs to date have passed normal on all of these things, save for a couple of breeder options on dogs not bred by us. Currently all dogs have been tested and are clear for prcd pra! With the discovery of the marker for RCD-3 we will be submitting our samples to get our dogs tested for this important problem.
A ten year health guaruntee is included on all dogs from our kennel. If at any time in the dogs life they show up with a hereditary defect, we will replace said dog. Of course few stipulations are required.
